Holidays 2009

Last year for the new year (christmas, channukah etc.  but *everyone* had to flip their calendars to 2010…) I decided to make all the people on my list the same present, modified for their specific taste by varying colors and textures, because it’s very difficult to think of more than one gift idea.

Way back in the summer, I had seen some great down scarves in a MaxMara storefront, which seemed like a good idea for a holiday present.  My version are quilted (which pretty much killed my first sewing machine) and extra long, because it can be so frustrating if a scarf is tied and the ends stick straight out.  The length of 2.2m required a few extra seams which were covered up with the random quilting lines.

As a last detail, I ordered some custom fabric from KarmaKraft with a little logo and the year, and used it to sew the scarves shut at the end.  This service was relatively fast, and the printing quality was great.  In addition, I was able to send in a vector image which kept the details sharp.  The only disadvantage was the price, which was quite high, but reasonable.  Certainly it is affordable if only used for small custom details.
